Hammer, Striker - There are so many solutions -
Primary Rules of Firearm Safety - As basic as these seem, if followed religiously, they will prevent tragedy
#1 - Assume all firearms are loaded
          - Treat them with respect
#2 - Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy
          - Point it at a target or in a safe direction
#3 - Keep your finger off of the trigger until your sights are on the target
          - Anchor your trigger finger solidly in a place outside of the trigger guard
#4 - Be sure of your target AND what is beyond it
          - When you launch a projectile, YOU OWN IT - no matter where it goes.  If something goes bad - you don't get a Mulligan.  There are no "do - overs".
As the late great Col Jeff Cooper said in The Modern Technique of the Pistol,
"Make these rules a part of your character.  Never compromise them.  Improper gunhandling results from ignorance and improper role modeling, such as handling your gun like your favorite actor does."
Firearms use in the movies usually does not promote following these simple rules.  This is a pitiful fact and horrible teaching tool for our young.  Please observe and teach these rules to all who will listen.  Don't put up with others that refuse to follow them.
